One of the tools the Israeli’s have used in their battle against the Palestinians has been that of ethnic confusion. Mistaravim. Units of the Israeli Defense Forces who work undercover and infiltrate the Palestinians. As Wikipedia explains
The name is derived from the Arabic "Musta'arabi", meaning "those who live among the Arabs"
Ethnic confusion aids the Israelis here, the more Arab looking Jews can mix alongside the Palestinians without causing suspicion and strike when least expected. The image above shows rare footage of Mistaravim units and regular IDF soldiers detaining a Palestinian protestor. This ethnic confusion was for periods of time a critical part of the state run assassinations that the Israeli government sanctioned in both their own country and abroad.
Abroad they would use Jews who looked European, perhaps they even held another passport alongside their Israeli one. They could easily pass as European and not arose suspicion when surveying targets in unfriendly countries of Europe or the Middle East. Jews with dual passports were recruited by Mossad throughout their recent history and these agents have been instrumental in outlandish larger than life assassinations that Israel has executed. This and more are just some of the fascinating takeaways one gets from Ronen Bergman’s 2018 book “Rise and Kill First: The Secret History of Israel's Targeted Assassinations”.
