NeoLiberal Taxi Driver
What if Uber or Lyft were run by people sympathetic to us?
I’ve stopped using Uber/Lyft almost entirely.
After multiple dangerous rides with obviously illegal migrants that culminated in some squatemalan retard reversing on the freeway to get to the off ramp I’d rather take my chances with public transport.
I’m far from alone in this either, many normies will casually talk about how the driver they had didn’t seem to be the person on app. Browns and blacks are harder to tell apart though, especially at night and what is a white girl to do? Risk being called a racist by a driver and not get to where you need to go? Uber and Lyft also need to keep on the side of the drivers they are exploiting more than the customers at this stage in the game so complaints usually go nowhere.
The grift here is so painfully obvious and easy to solve, especially as facial recognition software gets more and more powerful. If Uber or Lyft wanted to solve the problem of illegal drivers or unlicensed drivers working on someones elses account they could require facial recognition snap points at multiple times during the ride, not once per shift but constantly. The total surveillance state but to actually stop grifting nons who are subleasing their Uber account like it’s a NYC taxi medallion out.
Imagine taking this one step further. Connect the database with ICE/DHS and if you get a match then the next ride hailed is going to be a ICE agent and the destination is your deportation center. This is all relatively trivial stuff to do or enforce by the way. None of these suggestions requires much at all. You could could even empower the riders to trigger the facial recognition from before, you don’t want Ahmed just scanning his face once and then his cousin gets in the car to drive. No instead whenever an Uber pulls up you the rider and force facial recognition and if it fails bam, account suspended and person banned.
Of course they’ll never do this. It would go against their own profit incentives. Uber and Lyft might not be Tyson foods level of employing nons. I’ve had my fair share of nice white dudes in 80% white towns who do it for the company or bit of extra cash but the real margin is in driving down what you give the drivers. They’ve been famously awful profit makers for years. If you actually enforced keeping illegals and their like out of driving then wages would have to go back up and they are already high. The Silicon Valley elite (Thielheads? Or is that a Will Martinism) however are locked into the exploitative loop right now and would never do this. Sure a branch of these kind of men are breaking away (New Founding) but the majority are totally deracinated people trying to pump the cash cow until she bursts.
What about robotaxis? The Waymos offer the future right? This kind of automation will free us of the curse of the terrible non driver! They are already pretty active in purpose built car centric places (aka most of America) like Arizona. The trouble is scaling those out in a country still on a downward trend and liberal attitudes towards crime is just going to spell disaster. It doesn’t take much for people to realize that automated vehicles are going to stop for other humans and so it’s trivial to get them to stop and then break the windows and rob the occupants. In the same way our modern policing is powerless to stop large groups of black youths doing takeovers it’s going to be the same here. In anarcho-tyranny it is always the citizen who is the victim, the criminals are just doing what they are supposed to. Oh and here’s a fun thing I learned recently, one reason you rarely see any successful litigation against these rideshare services is that as soon as you use them your terms of use binds you to settling the action privately. You are forced to waive your rights once you sign up. It’s genius. If you’re injured Uber will likely pay you but you can’t bring criminal charges.
The hope would be if this became enough of a problem that the Thielheads and their ilk would kick up enough of a stink to instigate a return to real law and order policing. Except we have the evidence that no matter how popular Yarvin has become that San Francisco hasn’t had a revolutionary shift to the right, instead the people working their have frankly become browner and just less bothered by human shit. They can continue to insulate themselves. That’s the horror of where we are at in America at the moment by the way. We’re just prosperous enough that everything holds together far better than places like Brazil. The normie chuds sneer at their European counterparts because the dollar remains top dog and their earning power holds, but only just. It’s incredibly fragile and economic bumps can knock people and places down rapidly. Once the music stops the hyper diversity is going to take a much uglier turn.
At that point though the Silicon Elite will have moved on, perhaps to Argentina with Millei and Thiel himself? It will be spun as the new frontier, a place white enough to work. That’s a ways off though. We have a bit more churn to get through, more decline to happen, more dangerous taxi rides to endure. It’s maddening because the technological fix is right there. As people worry about the likes of Flock cameras et al we realize more and more that truly there are simple ways to empower the rapid remigration of many people. It would be painful for the country as a whole but we’d have our home again. We need guys like us to be getting into these companies and pushing in the right direction for this to happen. Hope and optimism might be spun as cowardice but the true coward is the one who never tries to right the ship. At all stages things can be learned and applied.
